The French Sign Language (LSF) UEs are mainly aimed at students in the Language Sciences (SCL) and Foreign and Regional Languages, Literatures and Civilizations (LLCER) bachelor's degrees in the Faculty of Arts, Letters, Languages and Human Sciences (ALLSH), at Aix-Marseille University (AMU).

From September 2024, they will be grouped together with LANgues pour Spécialistes d'Autres Disciplines (LANSAD).

6 "French Sign Language" courses of 30 hours each are offered over 6 semesters (3 years):

    • level 1 (A1.1 of the CEFR)
    • level 2 (A1.2 of the CEFR)
    • level 3 (A1.3 of the CEFR)
    • level 4 (A1.4 of the CEFR)
    • level 5 (A2.1 of the CEFR)
    • level 6 (A2.2 of the CEFR)

Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 courses take place on Wednesdays or Thursdays every semester.

Level 5 and 6 courses take place on Monday afternoons every semester.

These courses are of course open to students with hearing disabilities.

Places are limited to 20 students per group.

Pre-selection of candidates takes place during the "LANSAD forum", during the pre-entry week:

    • Thursday, September 4, 2025, room B 211, from 4pm to 5pm
    • Friday, September 5, 2025, room B 211, from 4pm to 5pm
    • Wednesday, September 10, 2025, room B 211, from 4pm to 5pm
    • Wednesday, September 17, 2025, room A 221, from 4pm to 5pm

Address: Site Schuman, 29 avenue Robert Schuman, 13 621 Aix-en-Provence.

Shortlisted students will be contacted by e-mail.

Selection is based on one or more interviews.

Selection criteria are based on :

    • availability and real commitment on the part of the student (over 3 years)
    • motivation
    • aptitude for gestural expression
    • professional project
    • coherence with studies
    • the possibility of having this option validated by the school of the course being followed.

For levels 1 and 2, the number of places is limited, and applicants are very numerous... Occasionally, places become available at the beginning of January for level 2, but this is rare. As for levels 3 and 4, there are generally more opportunities to join the group (fewer in number). We therefore advise some students to take sign language courses at levels 1 and 2, through an association, to be able to join this group (levels 3 and 4): https: //lsamu.hypotheses.org/cours-lsf

Please note : It's not enough to take a language course to learn it, you also need to practice it. Students are therefore encouraged to attend all signed events, including the café des signes (3C) and the LSF workshop (CFAL).

Course starts: Wednesday, September 24, 2025 (attendance at the 1st session is compulsory, otherwise you risk losing your place).

Validation : Continuous assessment + attendance.
