I want to better understand the organization of university studies
In France, university studies are organized around three degrees: Licence-Master-Doctorat, a university system common to all European countries. Each academic year is divided into two semesters.
- The Licence (L1, L2, L3) is awarded after six semesters of study, i.e. three years after the baccalauréat.
- The Master's degree (M1, M2) is awarded after four semesters of study, or two years, after validation of a Bachelor's degree (a total of five years' study).
- The doctorate is awarded after six semesters, i.e. three years after the master's degree.
- The BUT is prepared in two years after the baccalauréat.
- The LP (licence professionnelle) is prepared in one year after obtaining a Bac + 2 diploma.
- The title of engineer is awarded in five years and leads to the grade of Master.
