UE LANSAD, levels and progression

Description of language levels

Each modern language offers teaching units (UE) that progress through several levels.

Each level is spread over the two semesters of a year:

  1. odd semester
  2. even semester

Initiation 1 and Initiation 2

Reserved for absolute beginners, this level is not offered in English.

Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2

Ability to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of everyday life (e.g. simple personal and family information, shopping, work, etc.).

  • Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • Be able to describe in simple terms his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

This level is not offered in English.

Continuent 1 and Continuent 2

Ability to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.

  • Be autonomous in most situations encountered while traveling in a region where the target language is spoken.
  • be able to produce simple, coherent text on familiar topics and areas of interest
  • Recount an event, experience or dream, describe a hope or goal, and briefly give reasons or explanations for a project or idea.

Some languages offer more advanced levels: Renforcement, Perfectionnement, Approfondissement.

  • General progression rules

The progression of language option courses aims to make students autonomous by the end of the bachelor's degree, which presupposes that the study of the chosen language is continued over several semesters. This continuity ensures harmonious and effective learning.

    • Initiation courses are strictly reserved for absolute beginners (students who have never studied the language before).
    • Any change is strongly discouraged and should only be made to a language that has already been studied in high school. In all cases, discuss the matter with your teacher and your Lansad supervisor, who may authorize you to do so.
    • If a language is validated by compensation (i.e. you don't have the average but your other marks allow you to validate your year), you must register for the next level up.

Any deviation from the rules of progression, at any level whatsoever, must be the subject of a duly justified request to the Director of Studies and the LANSAD manager of the desired language, no later than 15 days after the start of the academic year.
