Comparative study of contemporary European societies

Course reserved for exchange students with a B2 level

  • Pedagogical objectives

    • Understand the societies and national cultures of EU countries
    • Analyze the contemporary challenges facing European societies
    • Reflect on the relationship between political and institutional space and the notion of cultural area
  • Session organization

The teaching approach is based on multidisciplinarity and interactivity.

Two teachers from the language and history departments, specialists in civilization or contemporary history, work in pairs on a common theme. Both teachers are present during the 2 sessions devoted to each theme, and each can intervene during the presentation made by his or her colleague.

The aim of these courses is to establish an ongoing debate with students, from an intercultural perspective. To this end, for each theme, the first session (3h) is lecture-style, while the second session (3h) is led by the students, who propose presentations or reading notes based on documents submitted in advance by the teachers on the online teaching platform, Amétice, or on their own research and knowledge. Participation in the debate is encouraged by a bonus system integrated into the final assessment.
