Les nouvelles rencontres d'Averroès: "Taking language, speaking to each other".

📆 November 20 to 23, 2025

To "speak in tongues", yes, but how? At a time when language is strained and public space is tense, when words are disintegrating and losing their meaning, it's urgent to reaffirm their democratic and civic power. This year, the Nouvelles Rencontres d'Averroès focuses on the importance of speech and dialogue: conversation as the art of exchange, negotiation as a tool of diplomacy, translation as a gesture of hospitality.

Through the richness of Mediterranean plurilingualism, researchers, thinkers and artists question our way of weaving a common world. An invitation to listen, question and respond, giving voice so that speech does not become background noise, but remains an act of thought and resistance.

1ʳᵉ evening to think and dance: "Eh, comment tu parles?" followed by a concert

"Eh, comment tu parles?", a question thrown out as a challenge, sometimes as a reproach. In Marseille, it takes on a whole new dimension. Is there such a thing as Marseillais? Why did "gâté" and "tarpin" make their way into the dictionary? How do languages circulate and reinvent themselves across the city?

An evening in two parts: a debate followed by a concert, because music and dance are also languages!

🎤 19h - Debate on language and Marseille's languages. With "our" famous sociolinguist and specialist in the Marseille language Médéric Gasquet-Cyrus (Associate Professor, Aix-Marseille University) and film director Prïncia Car(Les Filles désir). Moderated by Mathieu Magnaudeix (Mediapart)

🎸 21h - Concert by Temenik Electric (Arabian rock)
With Mehdi Haddjeri (vocals and guitar), Florent Sallen (percussion), Jérome Bernaudon (bass, backing vocals), Frédéric Alvernhe (set mix) and Johann Martin (guitar).
