Poetic tasting: Taste of the Caribbean - Latin American and Caribbean Weeks 2026

🗓️ Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Thomas Mathee and Adeline Richard-Duperray have co-written a poetic-culinary book on the French Caribbean: Goût Caraïbes - Guyane et Martinique en cuisine, photos et dégustations poétiques (Éditions L'Harmattan).
They invite you to discover their project, through a tasting of Caribbean dishes cooked by Thomas Mathee.

The idea for the book came from Thomas Mathee who, originally from Martinique on his father's side and Guyana on his mother's, is very familiar with the French-speaking Caribbean and its culinary traditions, which he revisits himself every day in his job as a caterer. His desire to share with as many people as possible the natural and cultural wealth of these two French departments, one tropical and the other equatorial, gave rise to the project for a book at the crossroads of book genres, systematically combining recipes, culinary photographs and what we have dubbed "poetic tastings", short prose poems whose aim is to transcribe the sensory experiences of the Caribbean through words.

Organized by "Cielam" in partnership with "L'Harmattan ; Maison de la Recherche".
