In addition to the objectives shared with all the history degree courses, Course 2 includes geography teaching from L2 to L3, thus offering a genuine bivalence between these two historically related and complementary disciplines. The aim of Pathway 2 is to prepare students for teaching history and geography in secondary schools (collège, lycée). It is essential preparation for the CAPES history-geography and agrégation history competitive examinations. However, it also provides excellent training for students intending to become primary school teachers (professeur des écoles), as well as for all those wishing to take the civil service entrance exams for which a solid general knowledge is required.

All four tracks prepare students in the same way for the scientific requirements of the discipline of history, in the four canonical periods of history. The courses specific to Track 2 focus on the history of territories, rural history and economic and social history. It also includes a solid grounding in geography.
