Master Traduction et interprétation - Parcours Traduction littéraire

  • AIMS

    Students will acquire the critical tools necessary to understand the translation process and the phases of interculturality: history of translation, theories of translation, comparative methodologies, practices of literary translation, theories of interculturality, theories of literature, hermeneutics, currents in contemporary philosophy (French Theory).

    The programme proposes to train literary translators in the following linguistic areas:

    • Asian languages
    • Languages of the Middle East
    • Portuguese
    • Slavic Languages

    The standard course is structured around a common core aimed at the study of theoretical texts on literary translation on the one hand and the study of intercultural practices on the other.

    Depending on the chosen languages of specialisation, each student follows the translation and literature courses in a foreign language department.

    It is also possible to choose a thematic focus in translation studies. The students who enrol in this course are destined for research in General and Comparative Literature.

  • ADMISSION CONDITIONS

    Entry to the Master's programme is subject to selection, both in the 1st year (after the bachelor's degree or BAC +3) and in the 2nd year (after the bachelor's degree +4).

    Timetable for the procedure:                      

    March 1 to April 3, 2023: Application deadline
    April to June 2023: Review of applications by institutions
    June 19 to July 17, 2023: Admission phase (transmission of admission proposals to applicants and response from applicants to these proposals)
    Until 20 July 2023: Administrative registration with the institutions, according to the timetable set by each institution.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

    Candidates holding a validated licence are authorised to enrol in a master's degree.

    They must have a validated licence.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

    Strong academic standard across the whole of the undergraduate training. The results obtained in disciplines closely related to the envisaged selective master's degree are particularly important, without excluding other results.

    The application presents a project of study and/or research and/or a project of study and/or a project of study.

    The application shall present a coherent and motivated study and/or professional project, in line with the contents and aims of the requested selective training, and showing that the applicant has taken good note of the training.

    Good command of written and spoken French. Ability to react and adapt to different communication situations. Ability to argue in writing and orally.

    Minimum level C1 required in the languages of speciality, attested by an LLCER degree or by a recent attestation (less than 2 years old) among the recognised certifications for candidates holding another degree and if it is not their mother tongue.

    Basic knowledge of stylistics and literary history.

    The literary translation pathway trains teacher-researchers in foreign languages and literature working on issues related to literary translation and interculturality:

    Translating a literary text

    Modologies of criticism, discourse analysis, stylistic readings, comparatist methodologies, creative writing, translational criticism

  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

    A traineeship or internship abroad of between 2 and 4 months duration.
