    This degree aims at a thorough linguistic knowledge in Arabic and a solid competence in a second language of the Middle East and Maghreb (Armenian, Berber, Arabic, Persian, Turkish or languages of the Ancient East). It includes the study of the societies and cultures of the region from antiquity to the present day.

    The degree trains students in the techniques of written and spoken expression, in the methods of translation, in the critical analysis of various texts (literature, press, historical documents, doctrinal corpus) and in the exploitation of research in linguistics, literature, history, Islamology and anthropology of the Arab and Muslim worlds. From the 2nd year, three axes are proposed to allow students to define their professional and/or academic project: Teaching, Research, Information-Communication, French as a Foreign Language.

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

    The Arabic LLCER degree offers from the 2nd year a Research  Info-Com » axis which prepares the students for the Research Master's degree  Languages  Sociology », Course « »;This axis allows students to participate in the research Master's degree in Languages and Society, in the course of the Arab, Muslim and Islamic Worlds (MAMHS). This area allows students to begin a disciplinary specialisation in linguistics, literature, history, Islamology or anthropology applied to MENA. The teacher-researchers involved in the bachelor's and master's degrees are mostly attached to the Institute of Research and Studies on the Arab and Muslim Worlds (IREMAM UMR 7310).

    It is also possible to study the history of the Arab and Muslim Worlds.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    ul

    • Language skills in Arabic at B1+ (L1 beginners), B2+ (intermediate) or C1+ (advanced) level and strong skills (B2) in a 2nd MENA language (Middle East & North Africa)
    • Translation of texts from Arabic to French and from French to Arabic
    • In-depth historical and cultural knowledge of the MENA region
    • Ability to produce a critical analysis of various texts from the pre-Islamic period to the present
    • Organize a reflection on a topic related to Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern studies

    based on the collection of research materials (literature, oral literature, historical sources, doctrinal texts, press and audiovisual media, scientific books and articles)

    • Maîtriser lécrite et oral en langue française
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

    The place, role and organisation of internships and projects in the course (one paragraph of 300 characters).

    The Arabic LLCER degree includes a Project UE in semester 6. The project aims to consolidate the students' ability to work in a group and to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the licence; the content of the project is directly linked to the axis chosen in semester 4 (Teaching, Research or French as a Foreign Language).

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

    Learning in class and complementary use of the AMéTICE teaching platform. Encouragement of active pedagogy, in particular: problem-based approach, student presentations, mini research papers, individual and group work.
