Licence Langues étrangères appliquées (LEA) - Parcours Anglais-Allemand

  • Département DEG
  • Formation initiale - continue
  • Aix-en-Provence Schuman
  • AIMS

The LEA English-German Degree aims to acquire a solid knowledge of the culture and civilisation of the Anglo-Saxon world and a command of the main socio-economic, political and cultural dynamics of English- and German-speaking countries. It trains students to write and communicate at a professional level in French, English and German. The skills acquired include written and oral expression and comprehension, grammar, translation from English and German into French, as well as mastery of the concepts and reasoning that underpin legal, economic, communication and management analyses.

The LEA English-German degree prepares students in English and German so that they are able to move around in the countries of these two linguistic areas and interact in these two languages in addition to French, which can lead to a variety of careers (NGOs, diplomacy, journalism, business, research, etc.), in which proficiency in these three languages is expected. It is then possible to apply for the various Research and Professional Masters.

The full description of the LEA degree can be found here (regularly updated website)

  • ADMISSION CONDITIONS

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

Most of the teaching and research staff involved in the English-German LEA Bachelor's degree program belong to the ECHANGES research unit (EA 4236). This unit organizes a number of scientific events that are also open to students in the department. Research activities thus partly drive teaching in the fields of language, civilization, and cultural studies: https://echanges.univ-amu.fr/

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    • Advanced language skills in English (C1+) and solid skills in German.
    • Translation of a variety of texts from English and German into French and from French into English and German (press, audiovisual media, political and economic analyses, legal documents).
    • Fine knowledge of the political and cultural dynamics at work in the Anglo-Saxon and Germanic world.
    • Ability to apply legal, economic, communication or management concepts and reasoning to analyse a situation or manage a project.
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

The LEA programme offers a compulsory work placement in a company or other organisation for all Licence 3 students in semester 6, validating a 2 ECTS UE. The Professional Project and Guidance course in semester 5 helps students to develop their professional project and find work placements. The work placement lasts for eight weeks (280 hours), following on from the weeks of teaching, reviews, exams and occasional make-up exams (the university calendar is flexible, with an early exam period to enable students to complete their compulsory work placement).

The placement project must necessarily be validated by the teacher in charge and a placement agreement must be drawn up via AMUStage, Aix-Marseille Université's online agreement management tool (also accessible via the ENT). If the work placement takes place abroad, students must follow the standard AMUStage procedure and apply immediately to the university's International Relations Department via the MoveOn mobility portal. Students can also apply for mobility assistance. People registered under the continuing education scheme do not need to draw up their placement agreement on AMUStage but apply by email allsh-fc@univ-amu.fr or by going directly to the EGGER office in C209.

The supervised projects offered as part of various LEA degree courses enable students to work in conditions similar to those in a company, with support from the course teachers.

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

Face-to-face teaching and complementary use of the AMETICE teaching platform. Encouragement of active teaching methods, in particular: problem-based approach, student presentations, research mini-mémoires, individual and group work.

  • SUPPORT FOR YOUR STUDIES ABROAD

    International mobility

It is strongly recommended that you spend one or two semesters studying in a German-speaking country during your second or third year of your bachelor's degree. All the information you need can be found here: https://allsh.univ-amu.fr/fr/international.

Information sessions are held during the first semester, and you are strongly encouraged to attend.

As part of the DPI LEA/Kulturwirt program, a two-semester study abroad program in Germany is an integral part of the curriculum. The first year takes place at the home university (Aix-Marseille or Duisburg-Essen), the second year at Aix-Marseille, and the third year at Duisburg-Essen for the entire class. This is a Franco-German program from the second year of the bachelor's degree onwards: students from the University of Duisburg-Essen take all the courses for the English-German LEA bachelor's degree at Aix-Marseille. In the third year, it is the students from Aix-Marseille who take courses at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

As part of the DPI LEA-Europe/BA in AEL, selected students spend two years abroad and must return to AMU for their M1. See the website:
