  • AIMS

The mention aims at a specialised training in the field of Art History and Archaeology.

  • STRUCTURE AND ORGANISATION

The « History of Art and Archéology » degree is associated à the « History » degree in the « Archéology-History-History of Art » portal. In the first semester, the division of the UE is equal: students will follow two fundamental UE in « Histoire de léologie » and two fundamental UE in « Histoire » and a modern language UE and a Méthodology of University Work UE organised by the student's discipline of registration.

In semester 2, a specialization is proposed to students. In addition to the modern language course and the course on the methodology of university work, they will choose between two options: either two fundamental courses in their discipline of registration and two in the other; or three courses in their discipline of registration and one in the other. The logic of the portal is maintained, as well as the possibility of reorientation at the end of the first year, but a progressive specialisation is also possible.

The first year of the programme is devoted to the development of the skills of the students.

A teaching of methodology of academic work is proposed each semester of L1. The specialisation in the mention is carried out progressively, from the second semester. In the second year, a professional project and career planning course helps the student to refine his or her project; a cross-disciplinary course provides training in digital and information skills. The modern language is compulsory in each semester of the degree.

The degree is offered in English and French.

The specialisation in the mention begins in the 2nd year, with the choice of one of the three typical courses: Art History / Archaeology / Art History Archaeology History

In addition to the language and orientation, digital and information skills UEs, the teaching includes each semester, two disciplinary UEs (either Art History / or Archaeology for P1 and P2), plus a prerequisite UE;In P2, the student will be offered a compulsory internship (one semester in P2). In course 3, students will be offered the choice of an Art History or Archaeology UE each semester (depending on their project) and, as a cohort, a History UE, as far as the disciplinary UEs are concerned.

In L3, students will be offered the choice of an Art History or Archaeology UE, depending on their project.

In L3, 4 disciplinary UE à 6 crédits will be proposed, one of which will correspond to the compulsory internship in the 3 typical courses (Art History / Archaeology / Art History Archaeology History. In pathway 3, the student will be obliged to retain at least one History UE.

In S6, the student will be required to take a History UE.

In S6 free option, from a chosen list (which may allow the integration of ancient languages and especially UE in geography or sciences for archaeologists).

  • KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED

    Knowledges :

Architecture and Art History are generally new disciplines for first year students, who often have more of an intuitive or practical knowledge than a reasoned one. The courses are adapted to introduce students to the intellectual processes involved in these two disciplines, by gradually introducing them to the objects and methods. Through regular work, students can thus acquire a solid level of general, diversified and precise knowledge.

The objectives are graduated according to the semesters and years, particularly in the pedagogical stages:

    • In the first year, a single joint Portal with the Department of History « Archéology-History-History of Art » will form à the study of chronological, social and cultural contexts of the production of œThe course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to study the chronological, social and cultural contexts of the production of works of art and archaeological objects, and to develop their understanding of the objects and methods of the discipline, in particular the document commentary and the essay.
  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

The mention aims at a specialised training in the field of Art History and Archaeology.

    Competences:

    • Critical approach to the discipline.
    • Technique of commentary, analysis of works and archaeological data.
    • Technique de la dissertation : construction dématisé ; analyse critique et synthèse à partir de documents.
    • Maîtrise of speech and commentary on a work of art.
    • Acquisition of a base of knowledge in the discipline : knowing how to place a work of art or an archaeological object in a socio-cultural, geographical and chronological context, within the discipline and in a multidisciplinary approach. A reinforcement of the competences in history is expected thanks to the implementation of a unique Portal in L1 « Archéology-History-History of Art » and the possibility to continue this bi-disciplinary reinforcement in L2/L3 (type 3 course).
    • Formation à multidisciplinarity : The evolution of the methods of analysis of archaeological works and objects requires, in addition to the knowledge specific to the discipline, an understanding of the indispensable contributions of pluridisciplinarity (definition, implementation, explanation).
    • Practical skills : Beyond the disciplinary skills in art history and archaeology, and a mastery of the methods and tools common to the SHS, the training integrates from the L2 (typical course) the acquisition of practical skills, particularly in archaeology, through compulsory internships;ology, through compulsory internships in a professional environment and a complementary offer of internships or training with the research centres to which the department is attached and with partner organisations (cultural and heritage institutions, museums).
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

These compulsory internships are carried out during the university holidays of the year of validation (L2 or L3), or during the summer holidays of the year preceding the year of validation.

The acquisition of practical or professionalising training will be reinforced by a strong incentive for internships carried out in courses 1 and 3.

For non-compulsory internships, the establishment of the internship agreement is ensured with the support of the UFR administration via the ipro platform http://ipro.univ-amu.fr. This platform allows the student to access and apply for internship and job offers, to follow his applications, to request the internship authorization from his academic supervisor and to make his internship agreement.

    Tutorial projects

The tutored projects allow students to work in conditions close to those of a company, with support from the teachers of the course.

  • SUPPORT FOR YOUR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

The student has a regular teacher, the Director of Studies. They benefit from regular and individualised follow-up, supported by courses on the methodology of university work adapted to their discipline.

The homecoming days allow the student to get to know the department, the services of the University, the optional courses, to visit the University Library, to get to know the Common Documentation Service (SCD).

The Practice training, compulsory for L1, is a discovery of the Digital Working Environment ENT, of the AMETICE pedagogical platform, of the institutional mail (http://cipe.univ-amu.fr)

For students entering the course after authorisation from the P&E Commission, a refresher course may be offered (in certain cases, substitution of a French language UE for a Foreign Modern Language for example).

    Tutoring

CNRS staff (LAMPEA, CCJ, LA3M, TELEMME : Interventions in the framework of the teaching (5-10 speakers) - Supervision of internships : This is an important action carried out within the framework of the laboratories (CNRS staff and training resource support) in coordination with the department's teachers (student orientation, joint management of internships) and in consultation with the students' individual projects. The action of the Céramopôle -a transversal programme of the MMSH associating the archaeology laboratories CCJ, LAMPEA, LA3M, IRAA- with multiple training actions in which the students of the MMSH participate is particularly noteworthy;tudiants dès la L2, as well as courses in lithic industry (LAMPEA), archaeology (LAMPEA), architecture (IRAA) and building archaeology (LA3M).

The training is provided with the support of the administrative and pedagogical staff of the UFR ALLSH and the services of AMU. The schooling service is in charge of registration, student follow-up, examinations and diplomas, with a specific supervision for continuing education and international mobility. The pedagogical support office is involved in the preparation of timetables and local administration.

  • SUPPORT FOR YOUR ACADEMIC CHOICES

Progressive orientation in licence 1 or entry into licence 2 within the framework of the portals or according to a procedure proposed by the directions of studies and the Pedagogical Commission. Multidisciplinarity in licence 1 and options in licence 2 favour progressive orientation (conservation of credits and most of the marks).

    - Case study

    - Case of a licence in a portal :

Within the portal, students will be able to reorient themselves towards the mention of their choice after the validation of the first semester or the first year. In the latter case, they must have validated at least 12 credits in the chosen discipline. In the second year, these students in reorientation will have to follow a semester 2 UE of the new mention in place of the opening UE.

    - Case of a student in reorientation

    - Case of a non-portal licence :

The opening courses will allow students to reorient themselves after the validation of the first semester, or the first year. In the latter case, they must have validated at least 12 credits in the chosen discipline. In the second year, these students in reorientation will have to follow a UE of semester 2 of the new mention in place of the opening UE. »

  • SUPPORT FOR YOUR LABOR MARKET INTEGRATION

The objective is to accompany the student in the construction of his/her orientation. It is a question of providing general information and methodological content for searching for information in order to enable the student to enrich his or her orientation perspectives and to gradually develop his or her choices. It is also a question of providing students with preparation for integration: knowledge of the socio-professional environment specific to the course, initiation into the tools of integration and the search for internships.

  • SUPPORT FOR YOUR STUDIES ABROAD

Bilateral agreements exist within the framework of the Erasmus programme and the SwissEuropeanMobility Program, with the Universities of Freiburg and Tübingen (Germany), Nicosia and Limassol (Cyprus), Zadar (Croatia), Barcelona (3 Universities;(Spain), Thessaloniki and Athens (Greece), Ferrara, Lecce, Sassari, Siena, Padua, Rome, Palermo, Cagliari and Viterbo (Italy), Coimbra (Portugal), and Berne and Neuchâtel (Switzerland). The programme does not offer double degrees or compulsory internships abroad, but it does encourage and promote study days as part of the preparation of their dissertation.

The programme is designed to be a learning experience for students who wish to study abroad.
