LEARNING AND RESEARCH
The Deust can be continued by a L3 course in Performing Arts within the Licence Arts du spectacle.
KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED
The DEUST builds its pedagogical policy around three complementary areas:
- A theoretical approach to the central dimensions of theatrical practice, supported by the acquisition and active use of tools drawn from theatre studies and the humanities.
- Practical involvement on the stage, with the aim of gradually building up the singularity of each student's artistic gesture, combining acting with other theatrical work (directing, dramaturgy, directing, set design, stage management, mediation and production).
Process-based construction of a professional project within the framework of several courses, two internships and a professionalization program.

INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS
Supervised projects. Each student enrols in a course corresponding to a theatre profession: The purpose of the courses is not to adapt to a job. They are more the pedagogical place for a confrontation with one of the professions subsequently envisaged, the testing of motivations through concrete involvement in one of the professions.
There are 6 of these courses: dramaturgy and directing, stage management, scenography, mediation / production / administration, training and playwriting.
Each course corresponds to an optional volume of supervision comprising:
– 1 specific seminar (50 h).
– 1 specific practical workshop (50 h).
– 1 specific personal professional project (PPP).
– 1 internship in a company of at least 100 hours, linked to the sector.
Internship: The student will have to complete an observation or responsibility internship of 100 to 150 hours in a professional theatrical or cultural company. (5 credits)
SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS
The specificity of the program is that mornings are devoted to theoretical courses, and afternoons to workshops and some follow-on courses.
The aim of the program is to help students find employment.
Numerous partnerships have therefore been forged with partner organizations, first and foremost the Théâtre Antoine-Vitez, located on the Aix-en-Provence campus, with which the theater section is organically linked. This theater provides regular programming at Le Cube, which serves in part as a training theater for all the courses in the Theater department. It offers a theatrical program focusing on contemporary stage writing, with a particular emphasis on young people. As a meeting place and crossroads, it supports companies' projects through attentive dialogue and networking with professionals and universities. It is involved in the writing, staging, residency and/or creation-distribution phases. Working in close collaboration with partner artists, teaching staff and the University's Culture and Society Department, the theater develops its projects with a view to opening up to and sharing with students and the wider university community. Programming runs from September to June in the 192-seat Le Cube theater, or occasionally on other sites. It features shows, debates and workshops, with particular emphasis on aesthetic and social themes.
Each year, four university productions are offered: the theater section calls on professional directors to create a show in which the students occupy all the artistic, technical and administrative production positions. The shows are presented in partner venues as part of their official programming: Théâtre Vitez, Théâtre de la Joliette, Friche Belle de mai.
OFFSITE TEACHING
Some rehearsals for theatrical creations take place in Marseille: Théâtre Joliette and Friche Belle de mai
