Centre de formation et d'autoformation en langues CFAL - Apprendre, échanger, pratiquer

The Centre de Formation et d’Autoformation en Langues is open to all students and staff of the ALLSH faculty, to help them learn the languages taught at the UFR ALLSH.

A range of print and online resources are available for self-training, as well as for preparing for language tests and certifications such as CLES (Certification en Langues de l'Enseignement Supérieur).

Tutors in a range of languages are on hand at the center on a weekly basis to support and guide users in their language learning, and to run conversation workshops. CFAL is also a place for students to meet and exchange ideas. Various activities are offered to enable this exchange between French and international students.

Sandrine CADDEO is a lecturer in Language Sciences at Aix-Marseille University, and a researcher at the Parole et Langage Laboratory (LPL, UMR 7309, AMU, CNRS).

In this interview, she talks about intercomprehension, a method that enables the learner to understand several new foreign languages, both written and spoken, in a very short space of time. The success of such learning depends on a number of parameters, the main ones being the degree of proximity of the target languages (language families), the transfer of skills already acquired (reading and listening skills) and the type of working aids (their content is based on shared knowledge).
