Tuition and Fees

You must register and pay tuition at your home university. You remain a student at that university and come to Aix-Marseille University to earn enough credits to complete your degree at your home university.

Procedures

Contact the international office at your home university to confirm that there is a partnership with our university and our faculty, then develop your study plan. Your home university will provide you with instructions on the procedure to follow.

  • Choose Courses

    As an exchange student, you will have the opportunity to take courses at all levels (from the first year of a bachelor’s degree to the second year of a master’s degree) and in any department or school.

    Pre-School

    Every year, the ALLSH faculty welcomes more than 300 exchange students from all over the world. It is a tradition that, before the start of each academic year, activities are organized to ensure that students integrate smoothly into both their academic environment and the local community.

    Academic Calendar and Organization of Campus Life

    • The first semester begins the first week of September and ends at Christmas.
    • The second semester begins in January and ends on June 30.

    The exact start and end dates of each semester may vary from year to year, so you are encouraged to arrive in Aix-en-Provence on September 1 (if you are coming for the first semester or the academic year) or on January 2 (if you are coming for the second semester).

    Course Structure (ECTS)

    • Degree programs (master’s and bachelor’s) are organized into semesters ( odd and even)

      Odd semesters (S1, S3, S5) correspond to thewinter term, and even semesters (S2, S4, S6) correspond to thespring term
       
    • Within each semester, there are course units (UE), which consist of individual courses

      Each UE has a specific code, for example, HLA4UO4
      The first letter (H) corresponds to our faculty
      The next two letters correspond to the major (English, history, etc.)
      The number (for bachelor’s degrees) corresponds to the semester, and the last two digits refer to the course number
      HLA4U04 = a course offered within the DEMA program in semester 4 (L2, 2nd semester/spring)
       
    • A courseunit is often divided into Lectures (CM)andTutorials (TD)

      The CMtakes the form of alecture, often held in a lecture hall The TDis more like a class. The TD allows students to explore the theoretical concepts covered in the CM in greater depth using examples, practical exercises, and presentations.
      Each course unit is assigned a specific number of European credits (ECTS, European Credit Transfer System). These credits are transferable.

    The ECTS system guarantees academic recognition of studies completed abroad. As an exchange student at Aix-Marseille University, this system allows you to earn credits during your stay at our universities and have them recognized upon your return.
