    The standard « Lettres-Livre » pathway offers enriched and renewed training in harmony with the new Master Lettres training offer. It combines a solid grounding in the humanities (core syllabus in French and comparative language and literature) with training in the fields of books, bookshops, librarianship, publishing (socio-economics of the literary condition), the economy of the book trade, and the history of the book;conomie de la condition littéraire, des pratiques de la lecture, de l'édition  médiation du livre  enjeux et paysages éditoriaux  histoire du livre  matérialit&e; et esthétique du livre. A compulsory work placement in the book trade completes the Bachelor 3 course.

    A taste for reading and its assiduous practice, reactive skills, and a good understanding of literary texts.

  • STRUCTURE AND ORGANISATION

    The Literature-Books degree is organised with a common core of fundamental literary disciplinary knowledge and specific disciplinary knowledge in the fields of books.

    Each semester is structured into 3 blocks of skills and knowledge (BCC) : cross-disciplinary skills  disciplinary skills (literature and French language)  specific skills (book studies).

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

    The introduction to research is part of the gradual specialisation of training in modern literature and the preparation for further study after the bachelor's degree. In Year 3, students are made more aware of the tools and problems of current research in French and comparative literature, French language and linguistics, and the fields of the book.

  • KNOWLEDGE TO BE ACQUIRED

    The Literature-Books degree offers a high-level education articulating :

    -generalénéraous  disciplinary knowledge: in French and Francophone literature, general and comparative literature, French language and linguistics, classical languages, literature and culture

    - methodological know-how : explication et analyse de textes, outils d'analyse en littérature et en linguistique, dissertation et argumentation, recherche documentaire, rédaction d'crits critiques et créatifs, traduction de textes,

      - cross-curricular skills : modern foreign language and IT.

    - specialised knowledge in the fields and thirds of the book : sociology of the book, of reading, of publishing  médiation of the book  history of the book  matérialité and aesthetics of the book  chaîne of the book and publishing.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    • Connaissance de la littérature française des origines à nos jours
    • Knowledge of general and comparative literature from different linguistic and cultural areas
    • Knowledge of the French language from its origins to the present day through skills in linguistics and discourse analysis
    • Related competences: mastery of oral and written expression
    • Maîtrise d'une langue vivante étrangère
    • Methodological skills: text analysis, linguistic analysis, dissertation and argumentation, synthesis, creative and personal writing, documentary research
    • Knowledge of the publishing landscape and its players  the'history of the book  the book chain and its issues.
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

    Internships offered in 3rd year: introduction to the professional culture of the book trade. Any student can also do an optional placement by having a placement agreement validated on the basis : Amustage.

    The programme offers a variety of teaching methods that are open to innovative approaches. The core courses, which combine joint classes and group classes, and the specialist courses encourage different types of linkage between theory and practice, both written and oral

  • SUPPORT FOR YOUR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

    Students have a regular teacher, the Director of Studies. They benefit from regular and individualised supervision, supported by courses on the methodology of university work adapted to their discipline.

    The student's day is devoted to the student's studies and the student's work

    The welcome days provide an opportunity to find out about the course of study, the University's services, optional courses, visit the University Library and find out about the Service Commun de Documentation (SCD).

    Practice training, which is compulsory for L1 students, covers the ENT digital work environment, the AMETICE educational platform and institutional email (http://cipe.univ-amu.fr)

    For students entering the course after authorisation from the Teaching Commission, a refresher course may be offered (in some cases, substitution of a French language UE for a foreign modern language, for example).

    Compulsory modern language teaching, from the 1st to the 3rd year:

    A very rich offering of modern languages at the University of Aix-Marseille, accessible at beginner or continuing level (except in 3rd year), provided by LANSAD in the UFR ALLSH.

    Exchange programmes

    Letters degree students are strongly encouraged to go abroad during their studies. The Bachelor of Arts degree also attracts many foreign students on exchange programmes

    To support plans to study abroad and welcome international students:

    • in the training departments : an international relations manager, and a team of tutor teachers

    • in the UFR ALLSH : the joint International Relations department

    More than 40 active agreements with institutions in Europe (Erasmus+) and outside Europe, open to all Bachelor of Arts students
